Staging pyrospectaculars sounds like a blast, but it isn't easy to soar into this field.
The problem is it's dominated by a small number of private, mainly family run businesses that like to keep their sky shows to themselves. But if this career sounds more exciting than a rocket's red glare, here are some good ways to start.
Contact American Fireworks News and Fireworksland. Your next step is to attend training offered during the spring by a local fireworks company, or the two-day shooter's certification course offered each year by Pyrotechnics Guild International. Working as an assistant at a July 4th show is also worthwhile.
It's seasonal work for most people in the field, but a small percentage keep busy year round shooting fireworks for movies, TV, theater, concerts and sporting events.
